Five Christian Schools in Tasmania, Australia, have banned copies of the Harry Potter series from their libraries. The Herald Sun reports that J. K. Rowling's books were banned as Neil Rowcroft, executive director of Christian Schools Tasmania, does not "...want to expose [the] students to witchcraft"

The Australian Children's Book Council has condemned the ban. Victorian vice-president Bronwen Bennett stated "What they are doing is banning it on only one aspect of the story, rather than looking at it in the whole, including all the really good aspects of the book"
