Despite strict rules put in place by Harry Potter publishers, illegal copies of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix are making their way into the hands of fans and journalists before the official release. The New York Daily News bought a copy earlier this week from a shop selling the book 3 days early. In an interview for Newsround the shop owner claimed he had "no idea the release date was the 21st"

CBBC reports that three people, two Americans and one Canadian, claim to have already bought a copy of J. K. Rowling's long-awaited fifth book. Melissa, 23 from Montreal, Canada, spotted three copies of the book in a Wal-Mart supermarket and claims to have bought one before the publishers removed them. Kaitlin, 14 from Florida, USA, found three or four copies of the book on shelves at her local Wal-Greens store

Many more copies of the book may also be in circulation, especially after the theft of 7,680 copies from a trading estate in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside, earlier this week
