» Bookstore Proud of Not Selling Potter |

Linda Spiegel, owner of the independent bookstore The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe in Bayview Village, told the Toronto Star she is proud of not selling Harry Potter books after the heavy-handed treatment of her store by Raincoast Books, the Canadian publisher of the Harry Potter series
A sales rep from Raincoast packed up all copies of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire after discovering the small bookstore was selling the book two days before the official launch. Spiegel, who was away from the store at the time, told her staff to unpack the books and put them back on sale. Raincoast told the bookstore it would not receive any more Harry Potter books
Spiegel approached Bloomsbury, the UK publisher, to supply her store with Harry Potter books. Bloomsbury agreed, but the Canadian publisher sued. Spiegel, who has paid around $20,000 in damages and legal costs, now refuses to sell any of the Harry Potter series, despite Raincoast withdrawing its ban on the store |
